SATURDAY: PHOTOGRAPHER SHOWDOWN
OCT 12 2019 / 6:00PM

It’s not often that photographers get to showcase their work on the big screen, so we want to provide a platform that celebrates not only the craft, but the creativity behind still images that capture surfing, surf culture and the human spirit.

This year we will be inviting 5 x photographers to present a 5 minute slideshow set to music, and that takes the crowd on a compelling visual journey. It can include a life’s body of work, single or multiple themes, or a standout session or swell.

An adaptation of the photography challenge introduced at our last event, this year the photographers will take centre stage at The J and feature alongside our films screened on the Saturday night.

Stephanie Teixeira

Stephanie Teixeira is a Gold Coast based freelance photographer & cinematographer. Through digital media, her creative content reflects emotive and visually compelling storytelling, as she uses careful direction and technique to engage a wide and diverse audience. Evidently, she seeks the salt water for many reasons, but mostly as the perfect medium to inspire an authentic approach to her filmmaking and photography. Steph aims to uncover the raw, feminine and brave nature of female surfers, each with their own stories to tell.

Kane Brown

25 Years old. I picked up my first camera about 10 years ago photographing friends hanging out after school and the odd landscape photo, soon after i bought a secondhand water housing and fell in love with shooting the ocean straight away. Growing up on the Sunshine Coast close to the beach has created my style of work to what it is today, which I’m extremely grateful for. I’m inspired by travel, light, people, texture and the unpredictability the ocean holds, inspired by its forever changing conditions to be interpreted the way you see and feel it.

James Thorne

I grew up on the coast of Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula where I developed a love for surfing and anything to do with the ocean. I now live close to the beach on the Sunshine Coast and enjoy the warmer water as often as possible.
I started taking photos in the ocean as a creative outlet which inspired me to study a Diploma in Photography and Photo Imaging in 2015.
